Surveillance System

Airport Business Benefit

How It Works
Billing System

As an aircraft passes a designated point of a taxiway a customised surveillance camera takes a sequence of photographs of the aircraft. These photographs are stamped with information such as time, date and camera number. They are then wirelessly transmitted to a designated server located locally within the airport grounds. These images are compressed and stored. A copy of these images are securely sent via an IP connection to an ABaSS Control Server and imported into a unique database.

ABaSS technicians then process the images recording registration numbers and direction of travel. At the end of a given period (eg monthly) the ABaSS systems reconciles the registrations with local and CASA databases where an invoice is generated and sent to the appropriate aircraft owner.

This invoice will entail times, day, location and direction of each given movement as well as the aircraft, owner details and amount.

Statistical Reporting

At the end of a billing period (generally monthly) reports are created from the data that has been entered. These reports contain information interpreted in various ways, such as:

  • The total number of movements per hour, day, week, month and year
  • The movement history of individual aircraft

    Customised Reports

Data is only as valuable as the ability to analyse the information.

ABaSS offers a service to create customised reports as required by Airport operators.
    The ABaSS system records:

  • Time
  • Day
  • Date
  • Location of movement
  • Aircraft
  • Owner of aircraft
  • Direction of travel

This information can be interpreted as best suits individual airports needs. This permits Airport Operators to get a better understanding of exactly how their Airport functions. These reports can easily identify such things as:

  • Busy and quiet periods
  • Amount of local and visiting aircraft
  • Percentage of use by different types of aircraft
  • Traffic flow of particular taxiways
  • Percentage of use by professionals and hobbyists to mention just a few

    Surveillance System

Whenever the system detects motion, video recording is activated. The camera/s continuously monitors the field of view. As motion occurs (such as aircraft, vehicle, people etc) the locally installed server records the incident. These incidents or events can be reviewed by Airport Operators and exported to other media if necessary.

Settings that can be configured include:

  • Motion sensitivity
  • Exclusion zones. If there is continuous movement in shot (eg trees, flags, wind socks etc) the affected area/s can be excluded from motion detection
  • Pre movement recording. This is possible as recording is cached continuously, when motion occurs the systems knows to keep the recording prior to the motion

    Monitoring System

ABaSS is able to integrate the system with most local area computer networks (LAN’s). This enables authorised Airport staff to securely view cameras through computers attached to the network.

Remote viewing is also possible where appropriate internet connections are available. This is assessed on a site to site basis by ABaSS technicians.

    Airport Business Benefit

Revenue can be increased due to:

  • More efficient use of existing airport resources
  • Improved short-term and long-term capacity planning, through the identification of resources excess or shortage
  • Accurate movement data for aircraft billing
  • Improved service levels and customer satisfaction

Operating costs can be decreased due to:

  • Improvement of disruption management
  • Reduction in operator workload
  • Better management of infrastructure and resources
  • Optimisation of future investments in infrastructure through better planning and timing
